Alex McKee: A Journey Through Creativity and Innovation
Born on January 31, 1990, in Holland, Michigan, Alex McKee is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey spans music, photography, design, and entrepreneurship. He later grew up in Florida, where much of his artistic identity took shape. From an early age, Alex gravitated toward creative expression, teaching himself skills long before they became career paths.
Alex has been making music since 2010. His earliest work consisted of electronic instrumental tracks heavily influenced by pop melodies and 1980s synth-driven sounds. During this time, he began working in Ableton and FL Studio—programs he still uses today—and taught himself how to write, arrange, and produce music independently.
Some of Alex’s earliest songs include The Pizza Song, The Candle Song, and Don’t Mind If I Do. As his sound evolved, he moved toward more emotionally focused songwriting. More recent releases such as Not Friends, Is This Better, and Prove Me Wrong reflect his growth as both a writer and producer. Every track is fully written and produced by Alex himself.
Before officially releasing music, Alex spent much of his youth and early career focused on graphic design and photography. He dropped out of high school to pursue photography and to run his candle businesses full time, allowing him to build multiple creative ventures from the ground up. His visual work has appeared in publications such as Stick by Andrew Smith and LAIR Magazine.
Today, Alex balances music with running several businesses. Through his electronic project, The Open Fold, he has released albums such as Glass Sunrise and Glass Sunrise Part II: Dredged Up, blending nostalgic dance textures with heavier, more experimental sounds. His process remains hands-on, independent, and deeply personal.
